MBI Programs

Twenty years ago, on my return trip from my first visit to the Philippines, God spoke the following to my heart.

“The reason you are shocked to see these poor, dirty and naked children begging for food on the streets of Ozamis is because I want you to do something about it.  I did not send you to America just to enjoy for yourself the blessings I gave upon that land.  I want you to “share” those blessings to these little ones.  I want you to tell them I love them too”.

International Hunger Facts:

  • 1.02 billion people across the world are hungry.
  • Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes—one child every 5 seconds
  • In essence, hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, where individuals  or families cannot afford to meet their most basic need for food.
  • Hunger manifests itself in many ways other than starvation and famine.  Most poor people who battle hunger deal with chronic undernourishment and vitamin  or mineral deficiencies, which result in stunted growth, weakness and heightened susceptibility to illness.
  • Countries in which a large portion of the population battles hunger daily are usually poor and often lack the social safety nets we enjoy, such as soup kitchens, food stamps, church benevolence programs, and job training.  When a family that lives in a poor country cannot grow enough food or earn enough money to buy food, there is nowhere to turn to for help.
  • Socially, the lack of food  erodes relationships and feeds shame so that most in need of support are often least able to call on it.

Feeding Program

Feeding the children was the core, initial program of MBI mission in 1995.  Funding was very low but the ministry was dedicated to feeding the children on a consistent basis. We never stopped feeding since then and MBI grew to what it is today even with the lowest budget you can not find elsewhere in a non-profit organization in comparison to the active programs we’re committed to. Ninety five percent of donations we received goes towards our programs. Currently, we are feeding more than 250 children every Saturday. It may seem like a tiny drop of hope in an ocean of suffering, but since its inception, the feeding program is making a huge impact in the lives of the children we served. It’s a joy and a delight to see their happy faces get excited for their hearty nutritious meal of the week.  Three hours before the meal, these children are enjoying sessions in Bible lessons, music, arts, crafts and games.  They are taught to love God and others. It is our mission to never turn away a hungry child.

Bless a Child Sponsorship Program

In 2006, we launched Bless A Child Sponsorship Program. Education is the only vehicle out of poverty for these boys and girls. For $25 a month, you can sponsor a child to send him/her to school.  Your donation pays for tuition, books, school supplies, uniform and transportation.  For the 2009-2010 school year we have 66 students ranging in grades from Kindergarten to Senior in High School, and 6 of them in college.  There are several hundreds on the waiting list for sponsors.  Our students’ personal, emotional and spiritual well- being are positively enhanced through this program and they are eternally grateful to their Sponsors.  This is a very special project. It reaches deep into the heart of a child.  Going to school gave a feeling of being valued and cared for, and a hope for their future.  I invite you to take part in this compassionate act of kindness. It will put a smile on your face, warm your heart, and bring peace to your soul knowing that you have forever changed the life of a very special child!

House of Blessing

During my trip in the summer of 2007 my heart was gripped at the sight of third world poverty.  Unless you’ve visited these countries you may have not seen a sight like what I am about to describe much less comprehend.  It will make you throw up, seriously. I met some families with small children living under extremely devastating conditions.  Picture a  mother and father, with three young children ages 2, 4 and 5 making a discarded metal shipping container turned upside down their home. The square dimension is about 10x10x10 feet. Dirt floor, no toilet, no electricity, no running water in a 100 degree (Celsius) tropical heat.  You want to visit, but be careful you might step onto some human wastes  or dog poop nearby, the combined stench is enough to make you sick. The Lord was tugging my heart about opening up “Balay sa Panalangin” the Visayan version of House of Blessing. There is nowhere for these people to turn to.  Jesus is always in the business of helping the poor.  He is full of compassion and love.  We are to become His hands and feet to reach out to His people.  Thus, we opened up “Balay Sa Panalangin” in December of 2007.  We blessed hundreds of families with a bag filled with rice, beans, fish, fruits, vegetables, other staples and clothing shipped from their brothers and sisters in Christ in the USA!  Today, we are accepting donations towards this project so we can continue to bless families in need.

House of Refuge

Being a mother of four, I had the natural instinct of protecting the safety of my children.  In recent years, I became an avid admirer to individuals and groups advocating children’s rights, well being and safety.

This warning sign I saw in Cagayan de Oro city airport was another reason to confirm MBI’s three year old plan of building a House of Refuge (more like an orphanage).  Young, innocent, unprotected children on the city streets of Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, India, Singapore, the Philippines became the evil prey to a mob of Child Pornography and Child Sex Trafficking. In some cases naïve parents traded their own son or daughter for a mere $200 for survival.  It has become an ugly business.  Evil is rampant in the lands.

We need to keep these boys and girls away from the hands of the predators.  We need your help in building a House of Refuge, furnish it and a professional team to manage this house. We need individual and corporate sponsors for this project.  The time to do it is NOW!   Help us save the children!!!

Christian School

Instead of sending our students to schools across the city, we want to start our own and open it to the community.  This project is still on the planning stage.  If you have a serious interest in this program and want to be a part of the planning team, please contact us.

Mission Trips

We have an open invitation to anyone 18 years or older who wants to join us on a missions trip to the Philippines each summer between June and August.  We’d like for you to be a part “hands on” to the several programs mentioned above.  Admission to a Missions Trip Team is per approval by the Missions Admission Board by filling out an application.  Getting your passport and funding your own travel is initial requirement.  You can request or download an application form and send it to our office along with your initial non-refundable deposit of $250.00.   Your mission trip may change the lives of individuals you touch but I guarantee, it will change yours too!
